biography
Kyrié was born and raised in a small beach community on the Space Coast of Florida. Her love of film making started in elementary school when she chose the medium for a class project. She informed her fellow classmates about the Florida Scrub Jay, a species still listed as vulnerable to extinction, by leading them through the birds natural habitat, the scrubs close to her home. “Bird” had been Kyrié’s first word due to the fascination she had with these friendly natives who would land on a human hand seeking the reward of a peanut. Raising awareness about the Florida Scrub Jay would also be Kyrié’s Girl Scout Gold Award project in her late teens. She continued her interest in film in Junior High by being a member of the TV production program, running the morning announcements and documenting school events. She helped implement a level system, to encourage participants to learn more to earn greater responsibility, which is still in place to this day. For her dedication she was awarded TV Production Student of the Year in 8th grade. Through high school and college she focused on her academics receiving her International Baccalaureate Diploma in 2004 and Graduating from Flagler College in 2006 Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Business. While in high school she met the love of her life Gareth Paul Cox. He was a skater who had gained a cult following in high school with films he lensed of he and his friends skating. All though college she helped him with productions as his tastes widened to narrative film, documentary and fashion photography. After graduating college they were married. In 2008 Kyrié traveled with Gareth to Nicaragua to help out on a documentary (Dia de Luz) he was a cinematographer on. Here the idea was sparked that maybe her childhood love could also be her career. In the summer of 2008 Kyrié & Gareth decided to try their hand at the New York market. Kyrie got two internships at documentary production companies (Independent Production Fund, Orchard Films) while she perused freelance producing. She then worked freelance full-time producing educational, documentary and television content she spliting her time between Saint Augustine, Florida and Brooklyn, New York. Her client list includes Fuel TV, Metropolis Ensemble, Lacrosse the Nations, The American Museum of Natural History and Plowshares Media (MoMA, Columbia University). Through her time in New York she has honed both her creative and organizational skills bringing efficiency and thoughtfulness to each production she is a part of. She is dedicated to each story she tells and enjoys knowing that she is helping spread knowledge and understanding with each project she works on. She re-located to Los Angeles in the Summer of 2011 for Gareth to attend the American Film Institute as a cinematography fellow. Kyrie is continuing her freelance career on the Left Coast.
