A documentary Kyrié produced for the non-profit Lacrosse the Nations featuring their inaugural trip to the community of La Churecca

Kyrié traveled to Nicaragua for 10 days to document the inaugural trip of Lacrosse the Nations. No one was sure of exactly what would happen but all entered the endeavor with open hearts and minds ready to serve the community with Lacrosse. Kyrie had traveled previously to the community of La Churecca with the non-profit Love, Light & Melody during production on their feature length documentary Dia de Luz. During the 10 day trip Kyrié and her DP documented everything that happened during the day and conducted interviews at night. Slowly the story unfolded. Back in the states she sifted through the hours of footage to craft the story you see now.

A documentary Kyrié co-produced about a bluegrass band in Upstate New York

Kyrié traveled to very Upstate New York to co-produce this documentary with Rod Blackhurst. She went first with only the DP to cover a bluegrass festival the band was participating in and then again with the Director to film the interviews and remaining b-roll.

The Only Band In Town is a straightforward portrait of four casual bluegrass musicians in rural upstate New York. North Creek, NY has a population of 1,837 and only one band, the Don’t Quit Your Day Job Band, whose members include an old hippie, Melody, who moved to NYC during the Vietnam War with nothing but a bag of records and a guitar on her back, a small town old timer, Buckshot, who has spent his entire life in the same tiny community, Larry, a family man who seems to have forgotten about his family, and Stephanie, who is the band leader and transgendered father of three girls.

Gareth Paul Cox is a commercial television and film camera operator and cinematographer currently attending the American Film Institute in Los Angeles.

Gareth Paul Cox

Gareth Paul Cox is a commercial television and film camera operator and cinematographer currently attending the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. He has traveled the world working on commercial and documentary projects since graduating college in 2007. He has won multiple awards and recognition for is films which have screened at many festivals around the world, including the shorts corner at Cannes. In 2010, he and his wife won a Telly Award for their short documentary for a non-profit that is using the sport of Lacrosse as an outlet for aggression in teens in developing countries.

Growing up Gareth’s parents encouraged and allowed him to try a multitude of things, always affording him any opportunity they could. Through this freedom of expression he found himself. Gareth first began his interest in images both moving and still in Junior high. From there he was like a fish to water. He loved capturing anything he could, from family vacations, to his friends skateboarding.

By high school his parents saw that this was not just a passing phase and that he had a real aptitude and gift. Thus his collection of equipment began. A trend that has anything but stopped since. Once the owner of cameras both still and video he had the tools needed to become the artist he already was inside. He had countless rolls of film developed, of photos that he would now be embarrassed to show, artists are always their worst critic. “ I wanted to master the still image before I moved on to motion picture” says Cox of his motivation.

At Flagler College Gareth studied communications. This helped him hone his skills in both film and photography. While in college Gareth participated twice in the Melbourne Independent Filmmakers Festival. Both movies he was involved in won awards. What Matters, a skateboarding documentary he directed, filmed and edited won Best Film in the surf/skate category. Through his college years he learned more about how to play with light and the different effects that can be achieved through different uses of both film and digital media.

In his first year after graduation Gareth shot three feature length documentaries, one of which he was the DP on, shot freelance and continued to assist and shoot photography. During the summer of 2008 he moved to New York city with his wife to further his career and has since continued to work as a freelance cinematographer.

Kyrié worked with Plowshares Media to produce a series of videos about MoMA’s show AbEx NY. These videos highlighted works from the show from both the perspective of a curator and a conservator with the conservator demonstrating the painting techniques. To accompany these videos was also a series of short glossary term videos. All of these videos were compiled and made part of the MoMA iPad app for the exhibit. Kyrié edited all the curator videos and many of the others.
